Help for sole parent, adult son in denial, struggling to sup

As a parent I want to support, but when someone is afraid of discrimination, and the effect it could have on possible career, they can hide in denial. Often leaving you, out of hours, as the only witness to a crisis, with no support yourself.Feel just waiting for the big crash again. You never stop loving or caring, but it's painful to watch and listen to. :(

Re: Help for sole parent, adult son in denial, struggling to

As a sufferer of Depression for over 10yrs, i feel like while being the patient, ive also had to be the educator to my Dad, Mum, Partner and friends.
Its so difficult for us to explain exactly what we r feeling and thinking (sometimes we dont understand it ourselves). Sometimes we feel its a weakness we would rather hide from others, myself i dont discuss it with my younger brother because i dont want him to be embarassed or worried at all. In your case GinneDog I would encourage you to speak with your own GP, try to understand our mindset, ask how best to approach your child.

I have found just being completely OPEN and Honest with family, mates and work has been very positive. Hiding or lying or trying to avoid people judging me just caused me more stress.

If your child has access to TWITTER we have quite a number of followers of #BlackDogTribers. WE are all sufferers of mental illness who support each other and its a safe place to VENT frustrations.
xoxox love to you
